Can You Use Apple Music and Local Files Together on iPhone?

An Apple Music item remains subject to Apple Music authorization, subscription, account, region, item eligibility, availability, and playback rules.

Apple describes Sync Library as an Apple Music or iTunes Match feature, while MusicKit provides the authorization and playback framework used by apps that connect to Apple Music. Neither turns a streaming result into an ordinary local file.

Apple’s iPhone guide also treats audio quality and Apple Music downloads inside Apple Music’s own workflow. An Apple Music download and an OVO-imported local file may both play without a connection in the right state, but they are created, managed, and recovered differently.

Set up and verify the sources in five steps
- Identify every source first. Mark each test item as an authorized local file, an Apple Music item, or part of Apple’s Sync Library workflow. Do not use “in my library” as a substitute for naming the source.
- Preserve your originals. Keep personal masters and a separate backup outside the phone before importing anything. A player library is not the only copy a collection should have.
- Import a few supported local tracks. Add a small representative set through Files or iCloud Drive, then confirm those tracks appear in OVO’s on-device library and play as expected.

OVO is not the right fit if you listen only through Apple Music and do not need to organize authorized personal audio beside it. Use Apple Music directly; adding another source-aware library would create unnecessary complexity.
OVO is also not a tool for acquiring Apple Music content as files, bypassing service restrictions, converting protected media, making every catalog item eligible, or guaranteeing that a service result remains available. Keep authorized local masters and their backups independent from subscription access.
Keep one queue without blurring the sources
